ABOUT US
All right, what's up everyone? We're Psychobabble: A Mildly Interesting Podcast. Somehow you found your way to our site, and we are glad to have you here! Psychobabble is a bi-weekly storytelling venture where we investigate, uncover, and explore the weird world of psychology. This podcast is the love-child of Cody and Raul, your fearless co-hosts. Though we are both incredibly busy graduate students, we decided that we needed an outlet to practice self-care together. After being in the same program for 2+ years, Cody and Raul realized they often talked about psychology even when they were supposed to be "off-duty." Psychobabble was born from the idea of sharing these conversations with the world in the hopes that people find what we have to say is funny, insightful, and informative. Each episode will bring you informed content, guest interviews, and expert panels on everything from historical foundations, bad science, representations of mental health, and life as graduate students.
Cody Solesbee is a third-year Ph.D. student in the School Psychology program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He and his wife Sophie, AKA "Wife of the Show," are transplants from North Carolina. You will hear her featured in several episodes, especially when she decides to get ice cream in the middle of recording episode 4. They've got two pups, Mia and Margo that you may occasionally hear in the background when they get bored of listening to podcast recordings.
Raul Palacios is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the School Psychology program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He hails from El Paso, Texas, but has lived for extended periods in Taiwan and Seattle. Raul is a self-described graduate school veteran, having completed his Ed.S. in School Psychology at Seattle University. When not studying or podcasting, Raul likes to spend his time doing Karaoke or impromptu jam sessions with Cody.

Episode 2: Representing mental health in comic books: why conversation matters.
We're back! we are calling this the bridge episode. By starting a series of episodes related to mental health in comic books, it made the most sense to start with discussing why this is an important topic to cover. Join us as we break down what mental health means, why mental health representation is important, and, when done wrong, how it can lead to stigma. CHEERS!
Episode 3: Comic books: are we all just one bad day away?
Dr. Lisa Kort-Butler, Professor of Sociology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, joins us to discuss a cross-section of mental health and comic books. We provide insight on whether or not we're all just "one bad day away..." and the potential of comics as a teaching tool. Would Batman be the same if Bruce Wayne received therapy? We answer that and much more in this episode, and stay tuned as we make it through an entire episode without Cody insulting a famous band. CHEERS!
Episode 4: Self-care and the things we worry about: part 1
Join us as we babble about the things we worry about, both as graduate students and semi-functional humans. We're diving deep into our own experiences and discussing how we individually cope with the worries and stress of graduate school and life. As an added bonus, an unplanned special guest is featured in this episode! We barely scratched the surface on this one, so stay tuned for part 2. cheers!

Episode 4.2: self-care and the things we worry about: part 2
We're picking up right where we left the last episode, but this time the conversation is joined by two Babblers! Listen in as we discuss our own experiences of self-care, how we learned about this skill, and the importance of emotional hygiene.
Episode 6: The Psychology of #fakenews and conspiracy theories
In this episode, we attempt to babble our way through why people believe in #fakenews and conspiracy theories. Raul spends the episode inside cody's bubble as he riffs on cognitive biases and existential motives. We end the show by trying to answer how we can get people to buy the truth. shoutout to babbler jennaxward for the episode request! cheers!
